Slackware is a Linux distribution for PC (i486) computers. Originally released in 1993, it is the oldest existing distribution to date.
Slackware follows a philosophy of stability, simplicity and of following traditional UNIX principles. The distribution is renowned for its security and its ability to run on many types of hardware, from an aging 486 to the latest Intel / AMD system.
Within the Linux community, Slackware is often regarded as a distribution to be used by experienced Linux users, or those who want to know Linux very well, as the distribution encourages the user to use the Command Line Interface to modify the system configuration.
