Slackware Linux

Slackware is a version (distribuion) of the Linux operation system. Originally released in 1993, it is the oldest existing distribution to date.

Slackware follows a philosophy of stability, simplicity and of following traditional UNIX principles.

The distribution is renowned for its security and its ability to run on many types of hardware, from aging 486 PCs to the latest Intel / AMD system.

Within the Linux community, Slackware is often regarded as a distribution to be used by those who want to know the 'nuts and bolts' of Linux very well.

Slackware's 'Keep it Simple' philosphy encourages the user to use the command line to modify the system configuration. While this can be daunting at first, it means the system is always simple to maintain and update.
